Bizona - Tenuta Macchiarola
Bizona is a young and carefree red wine, obtained from Primitivo grapes. The name is a tribute to an old film by Lino Banfi, the famous "The trainer in the ball", where Banfi invents the famous form of the Arizona 5-5-5. Domenico creates his Bizona planting 5 rows of Negroamaro, with yields of 5 hectares, and in vinification a maceration on the skins for 5 days. In 2015 he managed to use the Negramaro, while in 2016 he used Primitivo. The grapes are only de-stemmed and not crushed, and in a stainless steel winemaker the spontaneous fermentation starts with a 2-week maceration on the skins. Then it is refined in steel tanks on the fine lees for 6/7 months. It is not filtered before being bottled. A light wine, direct, very fresh, with an overwhelming drink. In summer you can drink at a temperature around 10/12 °.
Service
We taste it at a temperature around 16/18 ° C. In summer you can drink at a temperature around 10/12 °. It is recommended to serve it in tulip glasses. Wine to be drunk immediately but left a few years in the cellar can express its great potential.
Pairings
Excellent with appetizers of cold cuts, pasta with meat sauce, meat dishes, to try with pork chops cooked in the sauce.
Cellar: Tenuta Macchiarola
Tenuta Macchiarola is a craft company located in Lizzano, in the province of Taranto. Born in the mid-80s, and at the beginning, he devoted himself to the cultivation of cereals, vegetables, vines, and breeding of animals. The turnaround of the company arrives in 2005, when Domenico Mangione, the current owner, and his father-in-law Franco De Vita, plant 6 hectares of Primitivo. When in 2007 Domenico took over the reins of the company decides to make his wine in a natural way. The first wine he produces, he vinifies it in "amaroneggiante" style, and because of his lack of experience, to free it from the dregs he has to pour it many times. Bottled without filtration, the wine "puts a piece" and becomes drinkable. This fact makes Domenico aware that nature always tries to forgive you, and many times it does things you can not understand or control, if you're good you can only support them. In 2010 the vinification with Primitivo is added to the Negroamaro, and from 2014 white grapes are also vinified, Verdeca and Fiano. All the grapes used come from vineyards grown without the use of chemistry, and in the winery they are treated with respect, looking it expresses the vine, without the use of selected, clarifying and stabilizing yeasts. Pure wines, genuine and very drinkable.
