The cellar: Molitor Rosenkreuz Weingut - Achim Molitor
Molitor Rosenkreuz Weingut's winery is located in Wehlener Klosterberg, in the heart of the Moselle. Achim Molitor who represents the eighth generation of wine and, at the age of 20, in 1984, took over the family business. Its ideal is to produce high quality Riesling, following the extraordinary vocation of what is the Moselle territory where Riesling has achieved world fame for more than 100 years. His great results are due to an uncompromising work and selection in the vineyard, and a precision in the cellar combined with the knowledge of nature, grapes and winemaking. The vineyards are mainly planted with Riesling and Pinot Noir, and it is not difficult to find old centenary vines free of foot on steep slopes up to 80%. From the initial 3 hectares it has grown to 40 hectares today, all located in Mittel Mosel and almost all “grand cru”: Zeltingen Sonnenuhr, Zeltinger Schlossberg, Zeltinger Himmelreich, Ürziger Würzgarten, Erdener Treppchen, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich, Graacher Domprobst. Markus Molitor is very scrupulous in vinification; fermentation takes place with only natural yeasts, one part in steel and another part in wood, while the must is clarified by simple gravity and sedimentation. It produces around 150 different Rieslings, including 60 Auslese, 13 Eiswein and 15 TBA. His name is now known not only in Germany but throughout the world. Markus Molitor's wines show the potential of the Moselle terroirs, with a structure and depth of taste combined with freshness and elegance.
