Cellar: Cantine del Castello Conti
The Cantine del Castello Conti are located in Maggiora, in the province of Novara. The company's history begins in 1963 when Ermanno Conti decides to carry on the winemaking tradition of his ancestors, choosing to produce a long-aging wine like Boca. A story, made of effort, courage, patience and above all of great love for the vine and the earth. The name of the company originates from the castle built in 1960 by Ermanno who succeeds in realizing his dream of creating a fortress in which to defend and preserve a long-aging wine, such as Boca. Since 2006 it has been run by the three daughters of Ermanno, who after different training courses found themselves taking care of the company. The two and a half hectares of vineyards are located in Maggiora, divided into six plots. The two plant plots from Ermanno at the beginning of the seventies, are located in the Motto Grande and Cappelle localities on a volcanic, dry and acidic porfidic soil, where Nebbiolo, Vespolina and Uva Rara are cultivated. In 2017 we add another hectare of vineyard, called Pettirosso, which is located on a hill that is located in the historic area of Boca doc. For the management of the vineyards only copper and mine sulfur are used in small quantities and most of the work is done manually, including the harvest, which usually takes place in the first two decades of October. In the winery, the vinifications are spontaneous and we try to keep the munion possible. The Boca of the Castle Cellars is a territorial expression in which we find the depth of the complex minerality that characterizes it and which guarantees an enviable longevity.
