Cellar: Podere Erica
Podere Erica is a small biodynamic and organic farm located in the Chianti Classico region at an altitude of 350 meters, where there are limestone-clay soils rich in marl. It was born in 2005, when Neal and Jan Dempseya, Americans from San Francisco, buy the estate, which in 2009 they completely refurbish providing modern comforts while maintaining its rustic farmhouse character. With the help of Marco Giordano, winemaker, and Pierpaolo Chelo, sales assistant, they produce natural wines in a way that respects the terroir and conserves and replenishes the land. The company is spread over over 30 hectares with vineyards, olive trees, pastures and woods. The 5-hectare vineyard is mainly cultivated with Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Trebbiano and Moscato. Organic and biodynamic practices begin in the vineyard, where no chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides are used, and then continue in the cellar where fermentations are spontaneous and there are no chemicals added to the wines. The wines are named after the native birds found on the property which includes the vineyard, olive trees and a small wood.
