Cellar: Tarlant
Tarlant is a house whose history dates back to the end of the seventeenth century, when the forefather Pierre Tarlant began to cultivate the Gland vine, in the Aisne department. In the early twentieth century, the Talant family moved to Oeuilly, in the Vallé de la Marne, where they contributed to the spread of champagne culture and prestige around the world. Today the baton has been taken up by Mélanie and Benoît who represent the twelfth generation. The company extends over 14 hectares of vines divided into 60 plots that are vinified separately, and among these stands out an ungrafted plot called Les Sables, which survived the phylloxera epidemic thanks to the very sandy soil. The grapes grown are the most classic of the area: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, to which are added minor vines with which Benoit experiments with new vinifications. In the cellar, separate vinifications are preferred and two thirds of the vinifications take place in wood. The Tarlants put their wines on the market after eight or ten years of aging on the lees in their optimal phase, and for this reason they are rigorous, complex, and retain a great freshness thanks to the light dosage in fact, since 2010, all production has passed at minimal dosages.
