Winery: Carlo Viglione e Figli
The backdrop of the Langhe, with its enchanting landscape of hills and vineyards, perfectly frames the history and identity of Giulio Viglione and his winery. Located in the hamlet of Bussia di Monforte d'Alba, this winery has deep roots dating back to 1915, when Giulio's grandfather Giuseppe began growing grapes for sale shortly after the start of World War I. Over the years, the business evolved from simply producing grapes to winemaking in 1964, producing its own wines. Giulio, who grew up among the rows of vines with his parents, learned from a young age to care for the vineyards with dedication and respect for nature. Today, together with his wife Bernard Rosa Maria, they run the winery with a family-oriented and traditional approach, maintaining sustainable viticulture practices. The vineyards, covering about 4 hectares, are cultivated without chemical interventions, except for treatments with sulfur and copper, and harvesting is done manually, with the utmost respect for quality and the environment. Fermentation takes place thanks to the indigenous yeasts present on the plants, and the whole process ends in large oak barrels, which give the wines a unique structure and elegance. The wines produced, Barolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera, are authentic expressions of the area, characterized by great drinkability and sincerity, enriched by the typical finesse of the Langhe. With an annual production of about 10-12,000 barrels.
