Chianti Classico DOCG - Riecine
Riecine's Chianti Classico is an excellent Tuscan red wine made from Sangiovese grapes. On the nose, it presents elegant aromas of violets and red fruits, accompanied by subtle spicy notes. On the palate, it stands out for its roundness, breadth, and volume, offering a balanced and well-defined sensory experience. It is a finely evolved wine, characterized by light, typical, mellow, and elegant tannins, which underscore its refinement. After harvest, the grapes are delicately crushed by foot, a traditional method that helps preserve their quality. The must is then transferred to cement, steel, and wood vats, where fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, without the addition of external yeasts, thus maintaining a natural process. The wine is aged for 18 months in barriques, steel, and cement.
Service
We recommend serving it at a temperature of 16/18° in tulip glasses.
Pairing
Perfect with hors d'oeuvres starters, with pasta dishes, red meats, excellent with radicchio crepes.
The cellar: Riecine
Riecine, located on the picturesque hills of Gaiole in Chianti Classico, is one of the region's most prestigious and well-established producers of quality wines. Founded in 1971 by John Dunkley, an Englishman, Riecine began life on a small plot of just over one hectare purchased from the ancient Badia a Coltibuono. The first bottles were produced in 1973, achieving immediate success, so much so that John Dunkley and his wife Palmira are still considered among the greatest exponents of Chianti Classico. Recently, Riecine has undergone a major corporate restructuring due to foreign investment, but this has not compromised its virtuous production process. Under the leadership of Sean O'Callaghan, the winery has established itself as one of the leading wineries in the Chianti Classico region. The property extends across 35 hectares of land, 15 of which are vineyards, distributed across several estates, each with unique geological characteristics: Casina with heavy sands, Vertine with stony and calcareous soil, and Riecine, the historic estate with old vines dating back to 1968, characterized by clay and marl. Each vineyard is enhanced through separate fermentations and aging, vineyard by vineyard, to highlight the unique characteristics of the terroir. Harvesting is done by hand, and the winemaking follows traditional, environmentally friendly methods: the grapes are pressed by foot in small containers, as was done in the past, while natural fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled concrete or stainless steel tanks. Riecine wines are distinguished by their intensity, dark color, structure, and aromatic complexity, always maintaining impeccable balance. The internationally recognized production produces wines capable of offering lasting emotions, representing excellence in the Tuscan and Italian winemaking scene.
