The cellar: Paterna
The Paterna agricultural cooperative is located on the hills of Terranuova Bracciolini, along the Arno valley, between Arezzo and Florence. Established in 1978 by the passion of a group of winemakers. Today it covers an area of 15 hectares, seven of which dedicated to the vineyard, of varying ages, from 40 years to the recent plants, and the rest bred to olive groves and vegetables, all conducted in organic farming, with a path of approach to biodynamics. No weeding, but greening of legumes, and only copper, sulfur and propolis for treatments. The vines grown are those typical of the area, with particular attention to the recovery and enhancement of the native red grapes: Sangiovese first, but also Canaiolo, Colorino, Ciliegiolo, Pugnitello, in addition to the white Malvasia and Trebbiano grapes. The harvest is manual, with progressive selections, and in the cellar, the vinification is substantially traditional and takes place using steel tanks, indigenous yeasts, light filtrations and possible clarification with organic vegetable proteins and bentonite. A wine-making process supervised by Elisabetta Barbieri. Wines faithful to tradition, sincere and authentic.
