Xinomavro - Domaine Tatsis
An authentic and captivating expression of Xinomavro—an indigenous Greek red grape variety often compared to Nebbiolo for its elegance, structure, and profound ability to reflect its terroir. In the glass, it presents a delicate, luminous red hue—almost shy at first—that soon gives way to a surprisingly intense character. The nose opens with red fruit notes accompanied by refined oriental spices and an elegant balsamic touch, creating a complex, deeply Mediterranean aromatic profile. On the palate, it reveals its full personality: freshness, balance, and fine, pleasantly sweet tannins intertwine to form an elegant, dynamic, and persistent structure. A red wine of great character, capable of blending austerity with finesse, and energy with depth. A true expression of its terroir, produced from a precious old vineyard, it is ideal for those wishing to discover one of the most authentic and fascinating examples of Greek winemaking.
Service
We recommend tasting it at a temperature of 10/12 ° in tulip glasses. Wine to be drunk immediately to be drunk immediately but will express its best in a few years. We recommend keeping it in a horizontal position in a cool, damp and dark cellar.
Pairing
Ideal with grilled meats, lamb, roasts, pasta with ragù, mushrooms, aged cheeses, and Greek and Mediterranean dishes such as moussaka and souvlaki.
Cellar: Domaine Tatsis
The Domaine Tatsis is located in Goumenissa, a town in the Macedonian region, an ideal place for viticulture where the soils are of limestone origin. The Tatsis family arrived here in 1924 after the disintegration of the Ottoman Empire, coming from Bulgaria. Always winegrowers, the care of the vineyards has passed from grandfather to grandchildren Periclis and Stergios, the current owners. Periklis works the land and supervises the vineyards while Stergios is the oenologist Today there are 14 hectares of vines grown with the classic Greek vines: Roditis l 'Alepou, and Malagousia for whites, and Negoska, Xinomavro for reds. The Domaine Tatsis is among the first in Greece to believe in biodynamic agriculture and the Tatsis brothers intervene as little as possible both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
