Winery: Weingut In Der Eben
Urban Plattner was born in 1986, and grew up on the family farm, helping his father who cultivated vines and fruit trees from an early age. Officially, he took over Weingut (winery) in der Eben (the name of the farm) in 2014. The company has been under organic conditions since 1990 and today it is run in biodynamics. It is since 2010, when Urban was 24, that his father entrusted him with the management of the vineyard, continuing to devote himself to fruit trees. The wine that best represents his history as a winemaker is - for many reasons - the Schiava. On the one hand, it is the most typical variety linked to the territory, the one present in the oldest company vineyards, with plants that are between 40 and 55 years old. On the other hand, it is also the largest area, one and a half hectares, half of the total vineyard area. Although Weingut in der Eben is in the classic area of Doc Santa Maddalena, at the entrance to the Isarco Valley, the two versions of Schiava produced (one is the Riserva) renounce the denomination. The choice is to bottle them with the name Sant'Anna (Sankt Anna), that of a small church inside the farm. These are wines that speak of lean soils, more stony than sandy, with a strong concentration of tannin. You need time to express yourself at your best.
