Cellar: San Ferdinando
San Ferdinando Farm is located in the wonderful landscape of Val di Chiana, in the heart of Tuscany. In 1998 it was bought by the Grifoni family who immediately believed in its value. It extends for 50 hectares of olive groves and 9 acres of vineyards, which lie on roughly clayey terrain. The cultivated vineyards are the classic Tuscan; Sangiovese, Pugnitello, Merlot, Ciliegiolo and Vermentino. The work in vineyard and cellar is carried on by Simone Zucchetti whose philosophy is that of the highest respect of nature. Insects and sorghum have been abolished in the vineyard, while the use of sulphites is minimized in the cellar, only indigenous yeasts are used and fermentations and refinements occur in steel tanks or truncated tinctures. In 2009, the first vintage of Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo was inaugurated in a modern cellar. San Ferdinando offers wines linked to Tuscan territory and tradition.
