Merlot - Movia
Movia Merlot is a fruity and soft red wine obtained with the homonymous grapes. The grapes come from a 60-year-old organic vineyard, based on the famous Flysch of Collio, composed of layers of marl and sandstone, capable of giving unique wines. The harvest of the grapes is manual and late, and in the cellar the fermentation is spontaneous, with maceration of 3-4 weeks, without the addition of sulfur or racking. Subsequently the aging takes place for 5 years on the fine lees, in Slovenian oak barrels and French oak barrels, and the following 6 months in bottle. Movia Merlot has a ruby red color. The nose offers aromas of dark pulp fruit, followed by spicy notes and a beautiful mineral trace. In the mouth it is dry, warm, soft, full-bodied, with smooth tannins. It closes with an excellent persistent finish.ious finish.
Service
We taste it at a temperature around 16/18 ° C. Wine to drink immediately but if left a few years in the cellar can give great satisfaction.
Pairings
The Movia Merlot goes wonderfully with red meats, game and earthen dishes.
Cellar: Movia
Movia is situated on the border between Slovenia and Italy, on the splendid slopes of the Slovenian Collio called Brda. The story of the Movia family dates back to the beginning of 1700, but it is only in the nineteenth century that after the marriage between a descendant of the Movia family and Mr Kristancic, wine production began. Immediately, the wines of Movia were distinguished by the strong character, the overwhelming quality and the elegance of the fact that their fame soon crossed the national boundaries. Very active during the Second World War in the liberation of Yugoslavia by Nazi troops, they were rewarded by Marshal Tito, who left him wide freedom of wine production avoiding the nationalization of the vineyards. Today, the company is led by Ales Kristancic, which cultivates 22 hectares of vineyards located among the best plots between the Brda region and the Italian Collio. Ales has maintained the same production philosophy of wines produced according to the oenological tradition, without resorting to chemical means both in the vineyard and in the cellar, without any filtration, without oenological intervention and with the utmost respect for nature. Vineyards are Chardonnay, Ribolla Yellow, Tocai, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir for the production of both sparkling wines and still wines. Certainly the most famous wine is Pure White Brda, a sparkling wine produced with Chardonnay and Ribolla Gialla, which is not released so that the consumer can taste and enjoy the moment of degorgement.
