Winery: Milan Nestarec
Milan Nestarec is a young Czech winemaker who studied oenology with Aleš Kristančič of Movia. The company is located in the hills in the Moravský Žižkov and Velké Bílovice villages, south of Brno, in the Moravian wine region, particularly in the Velkopavlovická subregion, just 15 km from the northern border of Austria. Moravia is the largest and most important wine region in the Czech Republic and in recent years, thanks also to foreign investments, it has become the fulcrum of the country's wine renaissance. Milan works in the family business, founded by his father, together with his sister Lenka, who planted 8 hectares of vineyards in 2001. The vines, processed organically, are located in an area that is more than favorable to viticulture, they grow on compound soils mainly of loess and limestone, and enjoy a continental climate, characterized by cool, rainy summers and dry, harsh winters. Milan cultivated various native varieties such as the Neuburger, the Midwinter and the Dornfelder, and then Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gruner Veltliner, Muller Thurgau, Traminer, Malvasia, Pinot Noir, Zweigelt and Blaufrankisch. In the cellar the wines are made in a totally artisan and minimal way, without the addition of products, not even SO2 for bottling. The musts ferment spontaneously and usually make wine in casks and old and large oak and acacia tanks, and all the wines are bottled without fining or filtration. Milan produces three different production lines: Musika, Klasika and Antika. The first includes light wines, to drink every day; in Klasika we find more structured and elegant wines; while the third line includes full-bodied and complex wines. The Milan Nestarec wines are full expression of the terroir of origin, and today they begin to appear on the tables of the Parisian bistros and the nouvelle vague of the restaurants of the European capitals.
