Cellar: Ampelaia
Ampelaia is located in Roccatederighi, in the heart of the Maremma, surrounded by chestnut woods, wheat fields and beautiful expanses. Born in 2002 by Thomas Widmann and Giovanni Podini, who soon realize the potential of the place not only for the cultivation of the vine but also to create a project where man and nature are a whole. Ampelaia, which in Greek means "screw", was founded in the 1960s by the Swiss couple Erica and Peter Max Suter who bought an abandoned farm and turned it into a farm with forests, animals and vineyards. The peculiarity of Ampelaia is that the vineyards are located at three different altitudes so as to crunch different microclimate where the grapes can express the best characteristics, therefore we find; Ampelaia above 450/600 m.s.l.m. Planted mainly at Cabernet Franc, Ampelaia, between 250/350 m. With vineyards of Sangiovese and Ampelaia below which is closer to the sea where we find the Grenache. All vineyards are cultivated under biodynamic regime and in the cellar only indigenous yeasts and traditional practices. A perfectly successful project and after 15 years of experience their wines begin and be the mirror of the territory they come from.
