Cellar: La Felce
The company was born in Ortonovo, in the province of La spezia in Liguria, in the first post-war period, at the hands of Renato Marcesini. It is a family-run farm dedicated from the beginning to the cultivation of multiple crops: horticulture, fruit growing and viticulture, the only practice that has never been abandoned. In fact, the 1960s-70s brought wine production to the fore. It is the year 1998 that sees the generational change: grandfather Renato passes the reins to his grandson Andrea, who, after his agricultural studies, continues the viticulture and horticulture work started by his grandfather and founds the company under the name La Felce. Andrea's idea of viticulture is linked to traditional farming techniques, both in cultivation and in oenological practices, trying to revive in his wines the sensations and flavors he tasted since he was a child, in the most natural and respectful method possible, abandoning technology almost entirely to avoid distorting its traditional wines. Over the years, the area under vines has increased to 6 hectares of vines, together with 2 others between olive trees and vegetable gardens where it also produces saffron. The land on which the vines feed, many over the age of 50, are mainly sandy. Respect and care are values that Andrea shows not only towards his production system, but in a more holistic sense: in fact from 2020 he will start with a social agriculture project where in some structures for psychiatric patients vineyards will be planted, in which Andrea will do recovery therapy and job placement. Today, while waiting for his son to join the company, he has abandoned chemistry both in the vineyard and in the cellar, respecting himself, nature and those who drink his wine. The aim: to return wine to be a food for all and to be the custodian of history and territory.
