Valtellina Superiore Jazpemi - Barbacàn
Jazpemi, which in local dialect means pointed, is a red wine produced with Nebbiolo grapes that come from the homonymous vineyard, located in the Valgella sub-area in Valtellina, 500 m.s.l.m., on soils of sandy origin rich in shale and quartz. The harvest of the grapes is selected and manual, and usually takes place in October. In the cellar the fermentation is spontaneous with only indigenous yeasts with long maceration on the skins that can go over 90 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in large 20-hectolitre Austrian oak barrels. It is not clarified, filtered and stabilized before being bottled. The Jazpemi at sight is bright garnet red. On the nose the aromas are of red fruit, with cherry and raspberry in evidence, and notes of spices, dried fruit and mineral hints. On the palate it is warm, elegant, with smooth tannins and a nice acid texture. Long and harmonious finish. A lovely Valtellina Superiore.als. A Merry Superior Valtellina.
Service
We taste it at a temperature of 16/18 ° in Tulip glasses. Wine to drink immediately but leave to rest a few years in the cellar can give great satisfaction.
Pairings
Ideal wine for an appetizer of seasoned cheeses, first savory dishes, meat dishes to try with a roast dish with polenta.
Cellar: Barbacan
The company Barbacàn is located in the town of San Giacomo di Teglio, in Valtellina, in the heart of the Valgella subzone. Behind the name Barbacan we find Angelo Sega with his sons Luca and Matteo who in this area cultivate 3 hectares of vineyards located at 500 m.s.l.m. on sandy soils rich in shrubs, gneiss, granites, and quartz. The vineyards, located in the classic Valtelline terraced terraces that make heroic viticulture, are planted exclusively in Nebbiolo or as it is said in these parts in Chiavennasca. To emphasize their union with the territory and the preservation of tradition, the Sega family, cultivated a nursery staff with thirty biotypes of different Chiavennasca. Their approach is natural in both vineyards and cellars, and this is reflected in their wines, which are not homologated to a standard taste, but different in every vintage, because every year the climatic and atmospheric conditions that interact for 12 months with vines are different . Angelo is a vine-maker who creates a true bond between himself and the wine that will come to taste, and together with nature he is the creator of the result. Every season repeats ancient gestures that carry on the identity of a people who have always been linked to the cultivation of the nebbiolo. Barbacan produces three wines: Rosso di Valtellina, Valtellina Superiore Valgella Söl and Valtellina Superiore Valgella Pizamej, and in a few years bottles an effort. Barbacan wines are artisan in the true sense of the word and respectful of the terror of belonging, the vintages are expressed with their bizarre and equilibri, always different always unpredictable.
