Cellar: Meinklang
The Meinklang winery is located in Pamhagen, a small Austrian town in the district of Neusiedl am See, in Burgenland, on the eastern side of Lake Neusiedl, and extends beyond the border into Hungarian territory, in that territorial continuity that no border can never stop. Today Burgenland is a wine region that, like no other, is developing at the highest level. The name Meinklang derives from the words Mien, in Italian my, which expresses the personal touch of the young winemaker Werner Michlits, and klang, a sound that is synonymous with harmony with nature The company belongs to the Michlits family that owns 200 hectares of land, of which 55 are planted with vines, making it the largest wine estate in Austria. In addition to the vineyards, the Michlits family produces beer and honey, breeds animals, and cultivates the land in a closed circuit, in order to be self-sufficient. The vineyards are raised in biodynamic, with Demeter certification, and grow in a real garden where you can see green and red clover, vetches, and other wild herbs that create the perfect habitat for the growth of the vine. The vines are the autochthonous ones of the region: San Lorenzo, Grüner Veltiner, Zwigelt, Blaufränkish, in addition to those traditionally cultivated, such as Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir, while in the Hungarian side we find Juhfark and Hárslevelü. In the cellar we try to intervene as little as possible with spontaneous fermentations, no additives in the wine if not, in some cases, limited quantities of sulfur dioxide. The wine is refined in steel, cement or wood tanks: the time, and the use of these materials, are the tools used to promote the evolution of wines until they are completely ripe. The wines of Meinklang show a genuine expression of the nature in which they originated, and reflect the intact natural cycle of an ecosystem.
