Cellar: Alfredo Maestro

Bodegas by Alfredo Maestro Tejero is a small company located in Peñafiel, in the Ribera area of the Duero. Alfredo is a self-taught winemaker who grew up in the vineyards, and in 1998, encouraged by some friends, he planted his first vineyard on the Rio Duraton near his home. In 2000 he had his first harvest and started to make wine for his friends. Alfredo Maestro at the beginning vinifies according to the teachings learned from the neighbor winemakers, but his dream is to produce "natural wines", red and white that can reflect the land from which they come, without adding chemicals in the vineyard or in winemaking. In recent years, Alfredo has been searching, around Ribera del Duero and nearby Madrid, for vineyards of old vines, which grow on soils rich in limestone or granite, so that they can give freshness to its wines. Today, Alfredo owns 9 hectares of vineyards and two small bodegas, one located in his native Peñafiel in the Ribera del Duero, where his father helps her, and the other in the Navalcarnero area, southwest of Madrid. Alfredo produces no less than 11 cuvee from individual vineyards and especially from very rare vineyards of Garnacha, Garnacha Tintorera and Albillo located in the Ribera del Duero, grapes that were once cultivated in the region, but which fell into disgrace because of the region's charm for the Tempranillo. His are a remarkable example of purity and elegance.
