Umbria

Umbria is a beautiful green region that is located in central Italy with an ancient wine tradition, with the Etruscans. Hilly region rich in native varieties such as Grechetto, Verdello, Drupeggio, Procanico, Trebbiano Spoletino, Malvasie and Sagrantino. In the past, it was mainly known for Orvieto, a white wine based on Grechetto, Trebbiano and Drupeggio, which is produced in an area bordering Lazio and Tuscany and has the peculiarity of being refined in caves dug into the tuff, The cellar of excellence that produces it is definitely "Palazzone". Today the region has come to the fore for a red wine, the Sagrantino di Montefalco, a wine of great personality and sharp tannins in youth but with great potential for refinement. Also interesting is its passive version, which in the past was the most produced version and used during the religious masses. Another DOCG Umbra is the Torgiano Rosso reserve produced with grapes of Sangiovese and Canaiolo, where the reference company is "Lungarotti". Numerous DOCs include Montefalco, in the province of Perugia, where both Sangiovese-based red wines and white wines produced with trebbiano are produced.
