Tuscany

As you walk through Tuscany, the gaze spans over soft hills covered with well-ordered rows of vines, in the presence of patches of olive and cirepssi, creating a unique and unforgettable landscape. More than 60% of the territory of Tuscany is hilly, and the migratory wines produced come from vineyards that lie at an altitude of between 150 and 500 m. Land of great red wines, known all over the world, side by side with exquisite white wines, includes 11 DOCGs and more than 30 DOCs. The most cultivated vine is definitely the Sangiovese, which in Tuscany gives splendid fruits, having found the migratory ground right here, made of calcium-rich soils, with good exposure and wide thermal excursion between day and night. Vinified the purity enters the Brunello di Montalcino while, along with other vines, it is found in numerous DOCGs and DOCs, starting from Chianti, the Nobile Wine of Montepulciano and the Morellino di Scansano. Starting from the north to the border with Liguria, in the area called Lunigiana, we find the DOC Colli di Luni where you produce interesting Vermentino white wines. After the Apu Apuane, the Lucchesi hills extend, with the production of red wines based on Sangiovese, Merlot, Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo and Aleatico. In the province of Livorno is located the name Bolgheri with its Vermentino white wines and the famous Supertuscans, red wines produced with international vines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Caberbet Franc and Sangiovese. There is a subdenomination reserved exclusively to the Sassiccaia. In the area between Florence and Siena we find the Chianti denomination with its seven sub-zones. This denomination is the one that produces the largest quantity of wine in Italy and accounts for about one-third of the wine produced in Tuscany. The recipe for producing Chianti was invented in 1872 by Baron Bettino Ricasole. In the recipe black grape vines could be used such as Sangiovese, Colorino and Canaiolo, and white berries like Trebbiano and Malvasia. In the same province there is also the DOCG Chianti Classico where, unlike the normal Chianti, white vine varieties can not be used, although more and more producers today purify it purely by using only Sangiovese. In the province of Siena is produced the most famous Tuscan wine in the world, the Brunello di Montalcino. Produced in the first vintage in 1882 by Winery Biondi Santi only with grapes of Sangiovese Grosso, since then has known a success that does not stop. We remember, in the provinces, the only DCOG white berry that is Vernaccia of San Gimignano produced with Vernaccia. Along the coast of Grosseto there are numerous Vermentino-based white wines, Ansonica Trebbiano, which fall into the DOC Ansonica Costa dell'Armentario, Bianco di pitignano, Capalbio and Maremma Toscana. To remember the wines produced on the island of Elba with its DOCG Elba Aleatico passito, sweet wine produced with Aleatico. Vin Santo is produced throughout the region using white grapes such as Trebbiano and Malvasia, when red grapes are called "Occhio di Pernice"
