Himen de Loxarel Loxarel
Himen de Loxarel is an organic and biodynamic white wine that authentically expresses the character of the 100% Xarel·lo grape variety and the terroir of the Penedès DO. The grapes are sourced from the Can Mayol estate, specifically from a site that formerly served as a Republican airfield, ocated at an altitude of 250 meters on clay-limestone soils; this setting is ideal for producing wines with great personality and pronounced minerality. Harvesting is carried out exclusively by hand using crates, with careful selection of the best bunches to preserve their full quality. Vinification follows a natural, environmentally respectful approach, while aging takes place in terracotta amphorae—a technique that enhances the purity of the fruit and aromatic complexity without altering the wine's identity. In the glass, it displays an elegant lemon-yellow color with pale gold highlights and a slight natural haze. The nose releases intense aromas of green almond, ripe apple, and hazelnut, accompanied by delicate herbaceous notes of fennel and thyme. On the palate, it is fresh and lively, with pleasant acidity supporting a dry, savory, and mineral profile, leading to a long, harmonious finish. Served at 4–6°C, it is the ideal companion for anchovies, oysters, crustaceans, and shellfish, particularly scampi, but it also pairs perfectly with fresh fish dishes and Mediterranean cuisine.
Service
We recommend tasting it at a temperature of 4/6° in a flute ballon glass. To be drunk immediately but will express its best in a few years.
Pairing
Excellent wine as an aperitif, with light first courses, with fish-based main courses, to be tried with sea bass tartare flavored with fennel.
Winery: Loxarel
The Loxarel winery was born from the vocation and innovative spirit of Josep Mitjans who, at the age of 16, made his first 1,000 bottles of cava, breaking with the tradition of the estate's wine production to incorporate one more step into the supply chain. It was 1985. After four generations in contact with the vineyard and the land, it was time to take another step in the production process. Josep studies Oenology and accepts the challenge of leading the conversion of the family winery. In 1987 he registered the Loxarel brand, which claims the value of the flagship variety of the house: xarel·lo. Two years later, Teresa Nin joins the company to take care of the administrative and commercial management of the brand, while Mitjans focuses on the technical management of the winery and vineyards.
