Amaltea de Loxarel Vino bianco - Loxarel
Amaltea Loxarel is a white wine born in the heart of the Penedès region from a blend of Grenache Blanc and Xarel·lo. The Grenache Blanc comes from vineyards situated at an altitude of over 700 meters, while the Xarel·lo is grown on the Can Mayol estate at approximately 250 meters above sea level. During vinification, the grapes undergo skin maceration for about six hours—a technique that preserves primary fruit aromas and naturally protects the must from oxidation, lending the wine freshness, balance, and elegance. The name Amaltea is inspired by the Greek mythological nymph depicted as the goat that nursed Zeus; this symbol, along with the horn and the constellations, represents one of the principles of biodynamic agriculture. In the glass, it displays a bright, pale straw-yellow color with greenish highlights. On the nose, it releases intense aromas of pear and ripe peach, accompanied by delicate notes of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is fresh, pleasantly savory, and well-balanced, with lively acidity complementing flavors of white-fleshed and stone fruits, resulting in a smooth, highly drinkable wine. It is best served at a temperature of 4–6°C. It is an ideal pairing for cold appetizers, salads, seafood rice dishes, white fish, shellfish, and Mediterranean cuisine in general. A fresh, versatile, and sociable wine, perfect for sharing on any occasion.
Service
We recommend tasting it at a temperature of 6/8° in a flute ballon glass. To be drunk immediately but will express its best in a few years.
Pairing
Excellent wine as an aperitif, with light first courses, with fish-based main courses, to be tried with sea bass tartare flavored with fennel.
Winery: Loxarel
The Loxarel winery was born from the vocation and innovative spirit of Josep Mitjans who, at the age of 16, made his first 1,000 bottles of cava, breaking with the tradition of the estate's wine production to incorporate one more step into the supply chain. It was 1985. After four generations in contact with the vineyard and the land, it was time to take another step in the production process. Josep studies Oenology and accepts the challenge of leading the conversion of the family winery. In 1987 he registered the Loxarel brand, which claims the value of the flagship variety of the house: xarel·lo. Two years later, Teresa Nin joins the company to take care of the administrative and commercial management of the brand, while Mitjans focuses on the technical management of the winery and vineyards.
