Cellar: Romain Henin
Romain Hénin's company is located in Aÿ in the Montagne de Reims in Champagne, and was founded by his father, Pascal Hénin, an independent harvester and winemaker. After studying oenology, completed in 2011, and various work experiences, including with Sébastien Mouzon and Henri Giraud, Romain returned to work in the family business in 2013, but due to conflicts with his father, resulting from different views of winemaking, in 2016, Romain decided to embark on his own personal path by finding rented vineyards with which to make wine from the grapes. The first harvest was in 2018 with 1200 bottles produced. In 2021, after his father retired, Romain definitively returned to the company, and immediately approached an extremely severe and careful production philosophy which in just a few harvests led the Maison's labels to become cult among Champagne enthusiasts . The company's vineyards extend over eight hectares, of which the masters are five hectares of Pinot Meunier, in Ay, two and a half hectares of Pinot Noir, in nearby Mareuil-le-Port and half a hectare of Chardonnay, in Ay and Ambonnay. This diversity of terroir allows the richness and aromas of the three main Champagne grape varieties to be exploited for blends. Romain Champagnes are natural, alive and complex, in balance between expressiveness and depth.
