Cellar: Domaine Alexandre Bain
Alexadre Bain's estate is located in Tracy-sur-Loire, in the northern area of the controlled denomination territory of Pouilly-Fumé. It is cultivated essentially Sauvignon blanc. The soil is clayey-calcareous, with little arable land. The plots face south-west and face the placid course of the Loire. The climate is continental, mitigated by the presence of the river, which favors wine cultures. In the vineyard we work according to the cycle of the seasons. The plants are followed throughout the whole year: pruning (late - from January to April - and performed manually), chopping, topping, necking, hoeing and manual harvesting. The only treatments, based on copper, sulfur, clay and plant extracts, are aimed at counteracting the presence of cryptogamic mushrooms. We try to limit the use of the tractor to a minimum, which crushes the ground, pollutes the air and burns the branches; the horse is used more often and the first sheets are manual. Since 2007, the estate has received Demeter and Ecocert certifications for organic and biodynamic agriculture. With the concern of the expression of the terroir, in the cellar Bain does not add any oenological product to the grape must. It does not correct the acidity of wines, it does not add yeasts. If necessary, apply a slight sulphitation at the time of bottling. This way of working the land, grapes and wine is based on respect for nature and has as its objectives the ecological sustainability and the maximum pleasure of those who taste the wine.
