Paglia 2022 - Azienda Agricola Baccagnano
Paglia is the orange wine from Azienda Agricola Baccagnano, produced from Albana grapes via extended skin maceration. Fermentation begins like that of a red wine, followed by aging in concrete tanks on the fine lees throughout the winter. In the spring, the wine is racked, bottled, and left to rest before release. Sporting an amber hue with coppery highlights, Paglia offers aromas of dried fruit, orange zest, chamomile, and tea. On the palate, it is full-bodied, textural, and tannic, with a pleasantly bitter finish. Paglia - Azienda Agricola Baccagnano
Paglia is the orange wine from Azienda Agricola Baccagnano, crafted from Albana grapes using a process that respects both time and the raw material. Following the harvest—which takes place between late August and early September—the grapes undergo extended skin contact. For the first five days, fermentation is managed like that of a red wine, involving two daily punch-downs to keep the cap constantly submerged and to extract aroma, structure, and character. The wine is then transferred to concrete tanks, where it rests on its fine lees throughout the winter, slowly maturing. Come spring, it is racked and bottled, then left to rest for a few more months before it is ready for release. The result is an authentic wine with a bold personality, boasting a color that ranges from amber to orange, with elegant copper highlights. On the nose, it reveals aromas of dried fruit, orange zest, chamomile, and delicate tea nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied, textural, and enveloping, featuring a tannic structure reminiscent of red wines and a pleasantly bitter finish that enhances its complexity. Paglia is not a wine designed to please everyone; it is a sincere, intense, and distinctive orange wine, created for those who appreciate wines with character—wines capable of leaving a lasting impression.
