Winery: Chateau Musar
Château Musar is a historic wine cellar located in Ghazir, in the legendary Bekaa Valley, 24 kilometers north of Beirut, Lebanon. The winery was founded in 1930 by a happy insight of Gaston Hochar who after years of trips and studies in the best Bordeaux wineries decided to return to Lebanon convinced that in these wonderful lands, there were the best climatic and land conditions for the production of wine. Today the company is run by his sons Ronald and Serge Hochar. Serge Hochar after studying at enology at the prestigious Bordeaux University under the tutelage of the great Emile Peynaud, slowly takes over the reins of the cellar and brings to the forefront the wines of Château Musar. Consecration takes place at the Bristol Fair in 1979, when sommelier Michael Broadbent and journalist Roger Voss selected Musar 1967 as the best wine of the fair. The vineyards are grown in organic and growing in the sunny valley of the Bekaa Valley at an altitude of 1000 m., And also helped by climatic conditions Serge Hochar has been a forerunner of natural wine. For red wines, vineyards of French origin are used, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Carignan, Grenache and Mourvèdre, while the white Obaideh is similar to Chardonnay and Merwah, linked to Sémillon. Cultivating vineyards in these latitudes, because of the ongoing wars, is not easy, but all the years, except for 1976, Château Musar wine has been produced and it is possible to appreciate old vintages in good condition due to the goodness of the wine being produced . Numerous lines are produced, but all are characterized by fineness, elegance and the desire to surprise us after sip.
