ORANGE WINE

The Orange Wine wines are different from all the others: they are not white, nor red, but as the name says orange, although most of the time they are a beautiful bright amber color. The color derives from the particular vinification technique, which was born in Giorgia, cradle of wine, more than 5000 years ago. The technique consists in leaving the white grapes in contact with their skins for a period ranging from a few days to a few months depending on the grape variety used, and both the vinification and the aging take place very often in the typical terracotta amphorae . A vinification as used for red wines, which serves to make the wine much more complex both on the nose and on the palate, where we will have rather strong and impacting aromatic notes, with a tannic sensation on the palate, unusual if one thinks that it goes white grapes. The pioneer of Orange Wine in Italy, was certainly Josko Gravner, who is not satisfied with the production of his wines, decides to go to Giorgia to learn how to make wine according to local traditions, which consist in putting macerating wine in large amphoras of terracotta that remain buried in the earth for months or years. Take home some of those amphorae and start using them to make Ribolla Gialla. A wine that will give birth to the Orange Wine movement in Italy. Today among the best producers of Orange Wine we find: Terpin, Radikon, Podversic, Vodopivec, to stay in Friuli, while in the rest of Italy there are: Dettori, La stoppa, Bajola, and many others. Finally, it is recommended to taste them at a temperature of 14/16 °, and to open the bottle some time before putting it on the table. The pairing possibilities are extensive, combined with raw fish, exotic cuisine, red meat and game. In short, the Orange Wine wines are not for all palates, some love them others hate them.

The Berette 2.0 by La Ricolla is a simple, genuine and sincere macerated white wine made from Vermentino grapes. Berette, from the Ligurian saying, “Cuanto ti gou leave inse e berette”, or “How long do you leave it on the skins”. Spontaneous fermentation and maceration on the skins for 14 days in stainless steel vats. Aging in the same containers with frequent battonage for 10 months. Fresh and with good salt, it moves smoothly in the mouth, leaving the palate clean, satisfied and inebriated by citrus and mineral aromas. Zirudela from Al di là del fiume is a wine that comes from the union of the most authentic native white grape varieties of the Bolognese Hills: Albana, Grechetto gentile and Montuni. The peculiarity of the processing lies in the whole cluster maceration, in steel, of albana, the main grape variety of this wine. The Tragolargo Blanco is a wine from Alicante and produced with Moscatel and Malvasia grapes that are vinified spontaneously with a period of maceration on the skins. It is presented to the glass of a yellow color tending to orange. Nose that stands out for its delicious orange peel notes, which balance deliciously with the floral tones of the Moscatel grape.
