Patchwork 2022 - La Cuverie
Patchwork is a blend of Chardonnay from numerous small parcels, harvested by hand. The process takes place with whole bunches, followed by partial fermentation in steel and wood for about 9 months, with subsequent maturation in small woods. Malolactic, carried out to soften the powerful acidity, helps create a complex profile. It is an unfiltered and unclarified wine, which presents notes of citrus such as grapefruit on the attack, followed by hints of pastry and buttery due to aging in wood, giving a denser texture. The balance between the freshness of the citrus and the richness of the pastry makes it versatile: excellent both as an aperitif, even with oysters, and paired with white meats such as chicken.

Aurélien Beyeklian has had a varied and stimulating career path, starting as a radio journalist in England, then moving to Canada to work in a communications agency. His life has led him to travel a lot, supporting the Red Cross in different parts of the world, including Asia. These international experiences and his desire to return to his roots have led him to focus on the passions that have always accompanied him: wine and the Revermont region, in Bugey. One of the key moments in his career was the experience with the Bret brothers in Vinzelles, which consolidated his interest and commitment to the world of wine. The Bugey region, located between the Jura and Savoy, halfway between Geneva and Lyon, is a territory rich in traditions and values linked to nature and sustainability La Cuverie, Aurélien’s company, stands out for its ethical and respectful approach to wine production. The values that inspire it are those of an idea of well-being through wine, starting from respect for the land: permaculture practices and the conversion to biodynamics are the basis of its philosophy. Production avoids the use of mechanical means, preferring traditional methods such as ploughing with horses and controlling grassing with sheep, to maintain a natural and authentic balance. In addition to caring for the environment, La Cuverie is also committed to promoting a sociality based on respect, equity and mutual aid. The production chain reflects these principles of social justice, authenticity and inclusiveness, making the project not only agricultural but also deeply social. This holistic and sustainable approach has involved and enthused Aurélien, making his work with wine a means of creating well-being and community. In short, the story of Aurélien Beyeklian is that of a journey through cultures, experiences and values, culminating in a winemaking project that combines passion, respect for nature and social commitment.
