The Bodega Micro Bio is located in Nieva, a small town in the province of Segovia that is part of the Rueda DO .. The winery was founded by Ismael Gozalo, farmer of the fifth generation of winemakers. Ismael's family has traditionally been linked to Viñedos de Nieva, a winery that is now owned by the Martúe group. Viñedos de Nieva was the main producer of the area until Ismael joined Javier Zaccagnini (Aalto and Sei Solo in Ribera del Duero) to found Ossian. Their purpose was to produce wines from grapes that came from old Verdejo vineyards and, from the beginning, their wines were considered among the best white wines of Spain. After Zaccagnini sold his part to Pago de Carraovejas, a well-known producer of Ribera del Duero, Ismael left Ossian to create Micro Bio in 1998. MicroBio Wines is a purely family project that responds to a philosophy of life that benefits from wine and its sharing, as opposed to a production and marketing policy. The idea, from the beginning, was to produce wines with personality, without losing the varietal character and without masking the fruit. The old vineyards of Tempranillo, Sirah, Garnaca, but above all of Verdejo are found on sandy soils, so it is still possible to find grafted vines. The cellar is located in the basement of an ancient monastery, and Ismael tries to intervene as little as possible in order not to ruin what the earth has given him. MicroBio includes two different ranges of wine ranges, this is because Ismael likes to experiment, as in the case of Issée (fermented and aged in amphorae), Racks (turbid musts in a reductive environment), Sin Rumbo (oxidation during pressing) and Kilómetro 0 , an orange wine fermented in amphorae with peels. The flagship of this range is the Microbio, a Verdejo pressed in whole clusters and aged in large barrels from the Moselle. At the top of the range is Frágil, a Verdejo fermented and aged in glass demijohns "so that nothing stands between the terroir and the bottle". The company produces only 10,000 bottles of 15 different wines, including red and white, which gives an idea of ​​the small productions of each of them.
