ORANGE WINE

The Orange Wine wines are different from all the others: they are not white, nor red, but as the name says orange, although most of the time they are a beautiful bright amber color. The color derives from the particular vinification technique, which was born in Giorgia, cradle of wine, more than 5000 years ago. The technique consists in leaving the white grapes in contact with their skins for a period ranging from a few days to a few months depending on the grape variety used, and both the vinification and the aging take place very often in the typical terracotta amphorae . A vinification as used for red wines, which serves to make the wine much more complex both on the nose and on the palate, where we will have rather strong and impacting aromatic notes, with a tannic sensation on the palate, unusual if one thinks that it goes white grapes. The pioneer of Orange Wine in Italy, was certainly Josko Gravner, who is not satisfied with the production of his wines, decides to go to Giorgia to learn how to make wine according to local traditions, which consist in putting macerating wine in large amphoras of terracotta that remain buried in the earth for months or years. Take home some of those amphorae and start using them to make Ribolla Gialla. A wine that will give birth to the Orange Wine movement in Italy. Today among the best producers of Orange Wine we find: Terpin, Radikon, Podversic, Vodopivec, to stay in Friuli, while in the rest of Italy there are: Dettori, La stoppa, Bajola, and many others. Finally, it is recommended to taste them at a temperature of 14/16 °, and to open the bottle some time before putting it on the table. The pairing possibilities are extensive, combined with raw fish, exotic cuisine, red meat and game. In short, the Orange Wine wines are not for all palates, some love them others hate them.

Cantina Giardino's Fiano "Gaia" is an intense and complex wine made from grapes of the homonymous vine that come from old vines with an age ranging from 30 to 100 years. The refinement takes place inside the same containers, on the fine lees, for 12 months. It has fruity and floral aromas on the nose, followed by a slightly spicy note. The sip is of great structure, beautiful acidity and well integrated alcoholic note, it closes on citrus notes and sweet aftertaste

Aging: 6 months on the lees in third passage barriques, then 3 months in bottle.

Ronco Severo's Ribolla is a full-bodied and sapid macerated white wine made from 100% Ribolla Gialla grapes, a native Friulian grape variety. In the show glass of golden yellow color. On the nose the scent of flowers, dried fruit and citrus fruits, with notes of flint. In the mouth it is enveloping, very fresh, slightly tannic due to maceration on the skins. It closes along with a slight spicy accent.accent.

Volpe Rosa is the rosé from Cantina Giardino which is made from Coda di Volpe Rossa grapes, an ancient and rare Campania grape variety. 2 days maceration and one year aging in chestnut barrels. It has a copper color with small orange shades. Intense nose sensations of dried flowers with notes of candied fruit and caramelized notes. In the mouth it is dry with an excellent acid texture with a pleasant and invigorating finish. Only 400 bottles produced.

Lo Amo Macerato by Tenuta Belvedere is a white wine macerated from Pinot Grigio grapes. The grapes come from vineyards grown organically which are found on clayey and calcareous soils. The harvest is done manually, and once the grapes arrive in the cellar, they are de-stemmed, pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts without temperature control with a 14-day maceration. Aged for 9 months in acacia tonneaux and then after bottling for 4 months in bottle.

Fiano Sohpia is a wine with a marked flavor and a lashing vein of freshness that is vinified with long macerations in 200-liter amphorae for over a year. The nose is intense and complex with aromas reminiscent of citrus fruits and flowers, marked mineral and brackish qualities. In the mouth it is enveloping, fresh, material, slightly tannic and excellent persistence.
