ORANGE WINE

The Orange Wine wines are different from all the others: they are not white, nor red, but as the name says orange, although most of the time they are a beautiful bright amber color. The color derives from the particular vinification technique, which was born in Giorgia, cradle of wine, more than 5000 years ago. The technique consists in leaving the white grapes in contact with their skins for a period ranging from a few days to a few months depending on the grape variety used, and both the vinification and the aging take place very often in the typical terracotta amphorae . A vinification as used for red wines, which serves to make the wine much more complex both on the nose and on the palate, where we will have rather strong and impacting aromatic notes, with a tannic sensation on the palate, unusual if one thinks that it goes white grapes. The pioneer of Orange Wine in Italy, was certainly Josko Gravner, who is not satisfied with the production of his wines, decides to go to Giorgia to learn how to make wine according to local traditions, which consist in putting macerating wine in large amphoras of terracotta that remain buried in the earth for months or years. Take home some of those amphorae and start using them to make Ribolla Gialla. A wine that will give birth to the Orange Wine movement in Italy. Today among the best producers of Orange Wine we find: Terpin, Radikon, Podversic, Vodopivec, to stay in Friuli, while in the rest of Italy there are: Dettori, La stoppa, Bajola, and many others. Finally, it is recommended to taste them at a temperature of 14/16 °, and to open the bottle some time before putting it on the table. The pairing possibilities are extensive, combined with raw fish, exotic cuisine, red meat and game. In short, the Orange Wine wines are not for all palates, some love them others hate them.

Mons Roni Cannitum is an orange wine produced from a blend of Verdeca, wild Moscatello, and Malvasia grapes. In appearance, it shows an amber–copper hue, typical of skin-contact vinification. On the nose, it reveals a complex and well-defined aromatic profile, with herbaceous notes, ripe exotic fruit, and citrus nuances, complemented by hints of Mediterranean scrub and spices. V For Vittorio is the wine that Ennio and Mena wanted to dedicate to their son Vittorio. Made from white grapes. The hand-picked harvest is painstaking, only the perfect bunches enter the cellar. Fermentation is spontaneous, entrusted only to the yeasts present on the peel. Maceration on the skins in an open vat for 8 days. Then the refinement continues for 10 months in steel tanks. It is not filtered or clarified and no sulphites are added before bottling. V For Vittorio has a golden yellow color. On the nose hints of yellow fruits emerge, with notes of exotic fruit. On the palate it is fresh, well-structured and well balanced. The finish is long and persistent.

Riesling Maceration is a white wine that is part of the Origin line, five varieties of white grapes (Sylvaner, Auxerrois, Riesling, Muscat and Gewürztraminer) that undergo maceration in contact with the skins for a period ranging from 10 to 20 days to depending on the grape variety. Riesling Maceration has a yellow color tending to golden. On the nose the aromas are those typical of riesling with fresh notes and exotic fruit. On the palate it is warm, with good structure, soft, with an interesting acid note with a lively finish.

Sollùchero by Nevio Scala is the most fragrant wine of the company, the result of the dry expression of white and yellow Moscato grapes that come from the vineyard overlooking the old courtyard of the cellar. Baccabianca is an elegant and structured wine produced with white grapes. The grapes are harvested in September and in the cellar they are vinified with spontaneous fermentations and with long maceration on the skins that can last up to 90 days. Refine in steel tanks. The Baccabianca is amber in color. The nose refers to herbaceous and hay sensations, honeyed, with hints of hazelnut. On the palate it is warm, enveloping, tonic, with a marked structure and with a remarkably long finish.
