THE BOYS OF MAMOIADA

Mamoiada is located in full Barbagia in the center of Sardinia, at about 650 m.s.l.m .. A strong and hard region, where the soil is granitic with a superficial layer of small stones. Most of the vineyards are over twenty years old and it is not difficult to find centuries old. Here, thanks to the altitude, climate and soil, the vines are grown organically and receive only a few treatments of sulfur and copper every year. In Mamoiada there are about 300 hectares of vineyards, planted almost exclusively in Cannonau with a very small percentage of Granazza, an autochthonous white grape variety. Most of the producers are very small and someone does not even bottle, but the quality achieved is extraordinary. A different Cannonau than the other areas of Sardinia, with a less pronounced alcoholic note, aromas ranging from ripe red fruit to medicinal herbs, hints of underbrush, and in the mouth are balanced with a sweet tannin. Among the main producers we find Giovanni Montisci, Pasquale Bonamici, Eminas, Luca Gungui, Canneddu, Sannas, Sedilesu and Giampietro Puggioni.
