Producer Maria and Sepp Muster

AUSTRIA, STIRIA

Maria and Sepp Muster's cellar is located in the Austrian region of southern Styria, not far from the border with Slovenia. In 2000 they took over the parents' 10-hectare cellar and immediately started working in biodynamics. The vineyards are steeply sloping on rocky and clayey soils, at an altitude of about 450 meters. The composition of silt and clay is known in these parts with the name "Opok" from which a part of their wines takes its name. The other wine lines are: Graf, which is the name of the farm, and the wines are produced from the Zweigelt, Morillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, which come from the oldest vineyards. Then we find the Sgaminegg line, a traditional Slavic name that indicates the stony ground and in the wines we can find mineral sensations. Finally, the Rot line, made up of delicate, light but complex wines. In the cellar the vinification is natural, with spontaneous fermentations, no use of chemical products, and the wines mature for long periods in wooden barrels. They are then bottled without clarification or filtration and some wines are produced without the addition of sulfur dioxide, while others have small additions. Wines of character and personality, but at the same time fun and highly drinkable.
