Producer Richard Stávek

CZECH REPUBLIC

Richard Stávek's winery is located near Němčičky in the Czech region of Moravia. Richard, with a background as a food and wine journalist, began making wine in the mid-90s, and immediately embraced natural philosophy. With his wife Stanislava he cultivates 15 hectares, of which 5 hectares are dedicated to the vineyard, and in the others, he grows apricots, cherries, walnuts, seasonal vegetables, and produces honey and goat cheese. The vineyards are grown with an approach that minimizes interventions, and among the rows we find both indigenous vines, little known as Neuburger and Moscato di Moravia, and international vines such as Riesling Italico, Grühner Veltliner, Roter Traminer, Neuburger, Riesling Renano, Muller Thurgau and Pinot Grigio. In the cellar, the focus is on traditional practices, vinification of whole bunches, fermentation in wooden vats, and limited or no use of sulfur dioxide. Recently, Richard has started producing wooden staves which will be used to make barrels for the famous Austrian barrel maker, Stockinger.
