Lower Austria

Lower Austria is located in the northern part of Austria, on the border with the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and extends along the Danube to the eastern part of the country. Its wine history goes back to the Romans who first planted the vine here. Today, Lower Austria is one of the most wine-producing regions in the entire country, in fact, more than 50% of the vineyards are located in this area. It includes five wine districts: Donauland-Carnuntum, Kamptal-Donauland, Thermenregion, Wachau and Weinviertel. The most widespread grape is the Grüner Veltliner, which gives a light and fruity white wine with a surprising aftertaste of white pepper, then there is the Muller Thurgau, the Riesling, the Welschriesling and the Weissburgunder. Among the reds, we find those produced from Zweigelt grapes, from Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir), the latter widespread especially in the Baden area, where calcareous soils abound and the right exposure to the sun's rays.

Muster's Zweigelt is a complex wine with personality made from grapes of Zweigelt, a native Austrian grape variety. The name “Opok” derives from the calcareous-clayey soil typical of this area. The vineyards of the Opok line are the youngest of the company with an average age of 20 years. The grapes are harvested by hand and then de-stemmed. They ferment spontaneously with only indigenous yeasts in 225 liter barrels. Subsequently the wine ages in the same barrels for about 20 months. It is not filtered and no sulfur is added before bottling.
