The Vipara Valley

The Vipara Valley is located in the westernmost part of Slovenia not far from the Italian border. A verdant zone crossed by the Vipava river, from which it takes its name. In this region we find almost 2500 hectares of vineyards that more and more producers grow following the dictates of biodynamics and vinifying according to the ancient local traditions. The pordotti wines, both white and red, are generally elegant and harmonious with a rich and fresh bouquet, with a fruity character. The white wines are mostly monovitigno and sometimes we can find a blend of local varieties, which takes the name of Viparec. Among the white-berry varieties, Ribolla dominates, but we also find Sauvignon, Malvasia, Riesling Italico, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, and two autochthonous varieties such as Pinela and Zelen. The red berry varieties are not so widespread, but it happens to meet some rows of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Refosco and Pinot Noir.
