Kamtal

Lower Austria is the main Austrian wine producing region and is located to the north, essentially on the Danube plain. It includes the wine districts of Weinviertel, Thermenregione and the three most important; Donauland-Carnutum, Kamptal-Donauland and Wachau. In Kampatal the climate is continental with hot summers and cold winters, and with low rainfall. The alternation of hot and cold air is optimal for the phenological and aromatic maturation of the grapes. The land consists of primitive rock formations of iron, granite and slate gneiss. The Kampal is famous for the Gruner Veltliner, which is the most widely cultivated white berry in Austria, from which winegrowers obtain a finely fruity and floral wine, fresh in acidity and rich, is for the elegant Riesling. The best Riesling can be light when they are young, but they reach the wealth after a few years in the bottle and can achieve a good livelihood comparable to the best German riesling. The Kabinett is the style that dominates the classic wines of this region, though, in the warmer years, Spatlese and Aussies are produced. Other white grapes grown are Pinot Bianco, Gewurztraminer, Muller-Thurgau and Chardonnay. Austrian wine-based legislation based on the German system classifying wines according to the sugar content of the grapes. VQPRD quality wines are classified into two categories: Qualitatswien and Pradikatswein. The Pradikatswein levels are the same as the German ones but with the addition of two other attributes, Strohwein and Ausbruch. The Kabinett attribute that in Germany is part of the Pradikatswein in Austria falls into the Qualitatswien. Among the best producers of Kamtal we find; Weingut Brundlmayer, Graf Harddegg, Weingut Mantlerhoof and Martin Arndorfer.
