Alto Adige

Alto Adige has a more than a thousand years of wine tradition, as evidenced by the finding of several shears and ladles dating back to V A.C. When the Romans came they saw that the Nets, which then populated these areas, used to store wine in wooden barrels, while they kept it in clay amphorae and leather oysters. At the beginning of the eighteenth century South Tyrolean wine was loved by poets and writers, and the two local wines "Potzner" and "Traminer" were the first to be named after their geographical origin, Bolzano and Termeno. Still today, the wines of South Tyrol show a success that does not hesitate to stop, thanks to the quality of the grapes, the continental climate, the adoption of state-of-the-art technologies and methods and the winemaking of producers. South Tyrol boasts about 5300 hectares of vineyards, cultivated by almost 5000 winegrowers, located at an altitude of 200 to 1000 meters, on very different soils, from gravel to sandy, clayey to limestone, But the limestone limestone terrain, present in the southern areas, is present only in South Tyrol. Almost the whole region is covered by the South Tyrol / South Tyrol denomination, which produces more than 500,000 hectoliters of wine per year. All names and names of wines have the double name in Italian and German. 55% of the cultivated area is intended for white grapes, where the most common type is Pinot Noir followed by Riesling, Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio and Aromatic Traminer. The Gewürztraminer, the Sylvaner, the Müller-Thurgau, the Veltliner and the Kerner also have to be remembered. Among the reds, the scene is dominated by Schiava / Vernatsch, which is a delicious, fresh and pleasant wine that reaches its maximum expression in Lake Caldaro and Santa Maddalena. Other cultivated red grapes, we find the full body Lagrein, near Bolzano, the expressive Cabernet Sauvignon, the Pinot Noir end and the fruity Merlot.
