Producer Domaine du Facteur

FRANCE, LOIRE

Domaine du Facteur is located in the municipality of Noizay, in the Vouvray appellation, where Chenin blanc is essentially grown on clay-limestone soils. The plots are oriented south-west and overlook the placid course of the Loire. The climate is continental, mitigated by the presence of the river, which favors wine cultures. The winery was founded in 2014 from an idea by Fabien Brutout, who after completing his studies in oenology and having worked for around 2 years as an apprentice to Sébastien Brunet, asked his friend Mathieu Cosme to dedicate himself to the cultivation of the vineyards of the the latter's family estate, with the aim of creating “vins de copains”, or “wines for friends”, light and refreshing wines with particular attention to drinkability, the type of wine for which one glass leads to another. We work in the vineyard in a biodynamic way, the vines are looked after throughout the entire year: pruning, trimming, harvesting, hoeing and manual harvesting. The only treatments, based on copper, sulphur, clay and plant extracts, are aimed at counteracting the presence of cryptogamic fungi. With the concern for the expression of the terroir, no oenological product is added to the grape must in the cellar. The acidity of the wines is not corrected and yeasts are not added. This way of working the land, the grapes and the wine is based on respect for nature and has ecological sustainability and maximum pleasure for those who taste the wine as its objectives. There are currently five labels in this line. Fun fact: the name Facteur is the French word for postman. In the 1940s, postmen delivered mail on bicycles, and in France it was customary to offer them a glass of wine. It's easy to imagine what happened at the end of the shift...
