Producer 4 Gatos Locos
ARGENTINA, MENDOZA
4 Gatos Locos is a project born from an idea by Gabriel Bloise, Facundo Bonamaizon, Mariana Salas and Juan Pelizzatti, respectively oenologist, viticulturist and founders of Chakana. The company extends at the foot of the Andes on a single plot of 20 hectares, planted in Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon. Here the land is found on sandy-loam soils rich in skeleton and the pebbles that make up the soil in these "desert" conditions are covered by a thick layer of calcium carbonate which interacts with the roots of the vines and creates wines of great depth , color and flavor. The 4 Gatos Locos company is aware of the challenge of growing vines in a desert climate: apart from the necessary irrigation for the survival of the plants, they are always looking for solutions that require fewer interventions and that can enhance and enhance the distinctive characteristics of the territory . This meticulous viticultural approach is carefully supported in the cellar, where oenological additives are banned (with the exception of reasonable doses of sulphites). Thus, after manual harvesting, crushing, destemming or pressing, the musts decant spontaneously, the fermentations are entrusted to indigenous yeasts, and the refinements take place in French oak barrels or in concrete tanks. The result is exceptionally structured wines that immediately impressed us.
