Producer Domaine Julian Freres

FRANCE, LANGUADOC

Established since the sixteenth century in Ribaute-les-Tavernes, in the hinterland of Nîmes and not far from the Pont du Gard, the Julian family planted its first vines just after the phylloxera, in 1885, at the same time building the winemaking cellar. In the now distant 1979, in unsuspected times, the convinced transition to organic farming, now certified Écocert - Nature & Progrès. In 1987 a further leap towards naturalness, with the first vinifications without added sulphites. The choice of Louis Julian and his son Simon has always been radically popular: to produce and offer natural, healthy, digestible and good wines at a price accessible to all. Hence the option for a low profile in terms of image and communication: basic labels and liter bottles, closed with a very basic alternative cap. What matters to Julian is the substance! Today the domaine has 82 hectares, all organic, with a polyculture approach: cereals, vegetables, hens and, of course, vines (33 hectares). A real all-round farm. The grapes are vinified in a simple way, starting from a pied de cuve obtained from neutral yeasts, which allow the Julians to have a linear fermentation without distortions. Short macerations with racking, temperature control, refinement without clarification or filtration. Sulphites are not used at any stage of the winemaking process. When you approach your nose and mouth to its glasses, there is no doubt: free, spontaneous, fragrant, drinkable, sincere wines... Whether it's the reds or the whites, the dimension is that of timeless and fashionless nectars: this what matters is the health and quality of the raw material, transmitted by a non-invasive but competent vinification.
