Producer Masseria Case Rosse
SICILY
Masseria Case Rosse is an Etna reality located in Randazzo, in the province of Catania. It was founded by Salvatore Giardina, an entrepreneur well known in his city as the owner of one of the best wine bars and restaurants in the area called Vitis Vineria. Salvatore's relationship with wine led him to work with the Etna winemakers at Masseria del Pino and start producing his own label. Today the company has about 2 total hectares of vineyards (70-75 year old plants), divided into small parcels, which are located at an altitude of 700 meters, on volcanic soil, where the Nerello Mascalese reigns supreme, counterpointed here and there by some stock of Nerello hood. In the cellar, the winemaker's goal is to accompany the good result painstakingly obtained in the countryside without hindrance. For this reason, low yields and manual harvests are followed by a non-interventionist vinification, which resorts only to decanting to govern the parabola of the wine. Spontaneous fermentations entrusted to indigenous yeasts, without filtrations, without clarifications, without added sulphites. This is how the wines of Masseria Case Rosse respond to the wish of its author to be "emotional and exciting", which nourishes the soul and is good for the heart". The production is tiny with only 800 bottles produced.
