Producer Le Strie

LUMBARDY

The le Strie company is located in Ponte in Valtellina, in that fantastic area located between Lake Como, the Rhaetian Alps and the Orobie Alps. Here, the wine district is characterized by vineyards supported by dry stone walls, sandy soils with skeleton, very acidic and, in these conditions, Nebbiolo, the main vine of the area, takes on very particular characteristics of finesse and olfactory elegance. The company was born in 2003 by the will of Stefano, Paolo, Luciana and Marisa. Coming from different regions, Stefano and Paolo met in Sondrio in 1993 for work reasons. Both agricultural graduates worked in agriculture while Marisa and Luciana, their respective wives, worked in other sectors. Until 2001 they cultivated the vineyards to sell the grapes. In 2002 they decided to make their own grapes into wine with the aim of making handcrafted, personal wines, capable of maximizing the characteristics of Nebbiolo in the Valtellina "terroir". He began a work of restructuring the vineyards, trying, where possible, to preserve the genetic heritage of the old vines. Currently they manage just over 2 hectares of vineyards, where all the operations are carried out manually because the terraces practically do not allow any form of mechanization. In the vineyards we intervene only when it is strictly necessary based on the weather conditions and the vegetative phase of the plant. The grapes are harvested manually in crates by making a careful choice: once in the cellar, they are crushed and destemmed and vinified. For all wines, with the exception of Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG, fermentation is spontaneous: the yeasts are those naturally present on the grapes. The sulfur dioxide levels are low, they do not add additives, they do not clarify but only a light coarse filtration before bottling. The wines produced, all of a very traditional blend, are: Valtellina Superiore docg, Sforzato di Valtellina docg, Rosso di Valtellina doc and Alpi Retiche Nebbiolo igt: all red, 100% from Nebbiolo grapes. They produce about 10,000 bottles a year.
