Producer Vinas Mora

CROAZIA

Vinas Mora is a young reality located in Primošten, a small town located on the Croatian coast between Šibenik and Split. "Vinas Mora", in Croatian, is a pun meaning "wines from the sea" due to the proximity of the vineyards to the Adriatic. It is the story and the oenological adventure of Niko, who produced wine from Babić grapes according to centenary local traditions, and Kreso, a wine professional and importer in New York, who started working together during the first lockdown. It is there that the knowledge of local farmers and the territory revealed the potential of a terroir which for centuries has been the protagonist in the production of wine in Europe, but which with the prevalence of the tourist economy has seen the cultivation of the vine disappear or decrease significantly . The vines are planted with saplings, on land that at times seems lunar, harsh, rock. Their vineyard is planted in beds built by hand and artfully by local farmers, in a patchwork pattern: each of these contains a few vines, from 2 to 6, with thousands of small clos scattered across the Primosten hills. The climatic conditions are also extreme: no rain from May to October, very dry and extremely windy. The treatments are extremely sporadic, sometimes even a single treatment a year, in June. The plants are up to 100 years old, and the yield is minimal: the oldest ones return only half a kilo of grapes per plant, with slow wisdom. Everything is done by hand, the interventions in the cellar are minimal: wines with the sea in front of (and inside). The winery is mainly known for Babić, but Vinas Mora also produces wines from other local varieties, both red and white. Whites include Debit and Marastina, while reds include Plavina and Lasin.
