Producer Domaine de la Garance
FRANCE, LANGUEDOC-ROUSSILLON
The Domaine de la Garance by Pierre Quinonero is located in Caux, near Pézenas, in the Hérault in Languedoc. A small valley where the Tartuyo river (“turtle”, in Occitan) flows, and where Pierre, a lover of Tuscany, has also planted cypresses and olive trees. He starts working the vineyard inherited from his grandfather in 1991. He immediately obtains the organic certification, while the biodynamic one arrives in 2000. Pierre has been bottling since 1998, committing himself with great rigor to producing unique, long-aged red and white wines. The six hectares of vineyards benefit from rare geological qualities, from a complex and varied terroir with the presence of gravel, clayey-limestone sediments and basaltic splinters, where the Carignan has adapted to perfection. Pierre immediately had the ambition to produce great wines for aging, with the vineyards of Carignan that are 50 years old, and those of Ugni and Clairette that are centuries old. In 2000 he operated a mass selection for Syrah and Grenache gris. It also has a vineyard, with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, in Colombières-sur-Orb, characterized by granite soil and cool nights, where the harvest takes place a month later. The winery was built with friends. Among the labels are "Red October", a Carignan to be drunk young, spicy and seductive. The two "à Clara" wines are dedicated to the first daughter: the blend of Pinot Noir and Grenache, and Chardonnay in purity.
