Producer Ca' del Prete

In 1986 Giorgio Ferrero becomes the owner of the family farm that has been producing wine in Pino d'Asti for four generations, and begins its organic production. The label "Ca 'del Prete" was born (name that derives from the farmhouse where the cellar is located, which was once connected to the ancient rectory above). Since 2014 the company has passed from generation to generation, and today sees Luca Ferrero, Giorgio's grandson, at the helm, who in the meantime had collaborated with his grandfather, learning the trade. Luca gives further impetus to production, taking a step beyond organic: he defines his wines as "artisanal wines from organically grown grapes". The vineyard area is about 4 hectares, mainly cultivated in Freisa, with plots of Malvasia (an ancient vine from Schierano) and Barbera. Green reigns in the vineyards. The vines have always been covered with grass, to prevent the soil from being washed away and eroded. Over the years this has led to the constant presence of wild herbs, aromatic plants, flowers and a very lively fauna: worms, birds and small insects are in symbiosis with the vineyard. For the contribution of organic substance, green manure is practiced, sowing legumes which are then buried in spring. The use of copper is limited, and is gradually replaced with alternative organic substances, in homeopathic doses.
