Producer Chandon de Briailles

FRANCE, BURGUNDY

It was 1834 when the Nicolay family bought the houses and lands, it was a family holiday home and for many years, apart from a small internal production, the grapes were sold to some important wineries in Beaujolais. In 1981, Nadine De Nicolay, the mother of the current owners Francois and Claude, decides to make wine from her own grapes. In 1982 it comes out with the first vintage. In 1988, realizing how harmful chemistry was for health, he decided to abandon any chemical product used for growing the vine. In the same years, his son Francois runs a wine shop in Paris where he has the opportunity, one day, to taste 3 wines from the same vineyard, vinified in the same way but from grapes grown in different ways: conventional, organic and biodynamic. Francois capsice immediately the potential of biodynamics and when his mother, Nadine, retires, he decides to return. At the beginning it was a succession of actions aimed at improving the management of the land, such as the use of horses to work the land or treatments with milk instead of sulfur. Today the Domaine extends over 14 hectares divided into 3 AOC, Savingy Les Beaune, Pernard Vergelesses and Corton. In canitna fermentations are spontaneous and the sulfur levels used are very low. His style embodies emotional and deep, powerful and elegant wines
