Producer Tenuta Demaio

PUGLIA

Tenuta Demaio is located in San Severo, on the Puglia board and is led by Antonio. Its story begins at the beginning of the twentieth century, with Antonio's grandfather, Domenico, who cultivated olive trees in Rignano Garganico, a mountain village located in Puglia, in the province of Foggia. After moving to San Severo, he continued the family business and taught his son the love for the olive tree and the vine. Since he was a child, Antonio began to prune the vines, and to vinify the fruits. In the 70s the advent of cooperatives and the idea that "unity is strength" led him to suspend the transformation activity to devote himself mainly to agriculture. In those years, moreover, he first became a professor of Business Economics and then a school director of the ITC of San Severo, without ever abandoning his first passion, concentrating all the physical and economic energies to be able to grow the company, dreaming of starting over, one day, to produce wine and oil as when I was a child. So in 2010 he began the renovation of an old farm in the current cellar and from 2013 with the help of his son-in-law, Giovanni, also a wine lover, they started the transformation of the first grapes, following both in the countryside and in cellar, the organic and traditional method. In the vineyard they practice as few phytosanitary interventions as possible while, in the cellar, spontaneous fermentations, no clarification or filtration, as his father taught me, and as in turn I teach his children.
