Producer Jakob Tennstedt

GERMANY, MOSEL

Jakob's personal story is one that must be told, over a good glass of wine. A native of Berlin, he worked in several farms around Europe: Austria, Italy, France and finally Moselle, where he found the ideal balance to realize his idea of wine. Which enters the history of the Moselle and redefines it from within, with surprising wines, at the same time whispered and powerful. In the Kautenbachtal, a small side valley of the Moselle in the Hunsrück, he found vineyards on steep slopes that were largely abandoned in the 1980s because machines cannot be used everywhere due to the slope. The vines are between 50 and 100 years old and are located on the typical gray slate. In the cellar, perfectly ripe grapes are processed with the minimum of interventions necessary to favor the creation of complex wines with a long life ahead. Long and soft pressing of the whole grapes, possibly a little maceration, short sedimentation and aging in old wooden barrels. No filtration, no clarification, no sulfur. "The rest of the journey is done by wine, if it's good," says Jakob.
