Producer Gabin et Félix Richoux

FRANCE, IRANCY

The least we can say is that the Richoux family have long roots in Irancy, a historic wine-growing town in Yonne, the extreme north of Burgundy: the first written traces of the family date back to the end of the sixteenth century. The current Domaine was born in 1979, when Thierry began operating under his own name. Ten years later his wife Corine joined them and in 2012 it was the turn of their two children, Gabin et Félix, to start working in the company. Today the company bears the name of the new generation and cultivates a total of 22 hectares. The ecological awareness was gradual, but Corine and Thierry abandoned chemical weeding with conviction as early as 2002, while in 2010 organic certification began (Ecocert) and the following year the experimentation of biodynamic practices. The Richoux make wine only of their own grapes, coming from about twenty particles of different ages, exposures and surfaces. The harvest is manual, with a double selection in the cellar. No use of yeasts or exogenous enzymes and, in favorable years, no use of sulphites during fermentation and maceration. Aging is always prolonged, as befits an Irancy: at least one year in vats and one year in wood. Sulphites (no more than 50 mg / l total) are added to the bottling. The wines offer all the refinement of the great Burgundy Pinot noir and are cut for aging.
